Day of the dolls

‘Ginny’ takes center stage at Doll Collector’s convention

It was a little girl’s dream.

And quite a few grown-up “girls” looked pretty dreamy-eyed, too, when the East Tennessee Doll Collectors held their convention at the Airport Hilton recently.

Billed as a “Spring Fling in the Smokies,” the collectors of the United Federation of Doll Collectors Region 8 put together a program that began at 9 a.m. and closed at 3:30 p.m. The day was filled with conversation, information and notes on the most collectible and favorite dolls of the day.

Taking center stage was “Ginny,” by the Vogue Doll Company. Renowned doll collector, appraiser and author Glenn Mandeville gave a presentation of the Ginny dolls of yesterday, today and tomorrow, outlining the history of the popular doll and the effects on its status as a collectible.

The local hostesses had several great surprises for the attendees, including gifts of dolls, trunks to hold doll clothes and door prizes.
