It was raining fun. When Fine Arts Blount’s annual Art on the Runway took center stage on April 17, the fashions and the umbrellas garnered appreciation from the crowd. Judy Gardner of The Silk Purse brought the colors and styles of the season to the runway, which was decorated with a backdrop of the other “star” of the evening -- the handpainted umbrellas by artists of Fine Arts Blount.
The umbrellas were auctioned off during breaks in the fashion show, with each umbrella getting attention -- and plenty of bids -- under the expert direction of auctioneer David Alley, Jr., of Alley Auction Company. Some umbrellas brought in more than $100, including “Wet and Wild” by Pam Broockman ($180), “A Walk Through Cades Cove” by Gloria Nelson ($150) and “Raining Shoes Galore” by Mollie Nicholson ($105).
The light summer dinner, fashion show and auction was held at St. Andrews Church. Door prizes included a shopping spree at Boyd Thomas Clothing, a gift certificate from Bristol & Bragg Jewelry and gifts from Razberries, Natural Approach, Creekside Fine Wines and K&M Gallery.
Susan Colclough played the piano during dinner and Creekside Fine Wines poured wines for the guests. Judy Gardner was the emcee of her fashion show, offering not only the latest summer styles but tips on keeping your wardrobe affordable, accessorizing, and how to mix and match colors and styles.
Kim Slater was chair of the event and said this year’s show was very successful with an increase in the number of people who came and a great auction for the umbrellas.
