International Oriental Dance performer and master teacher Alexia is proud to once again sponsor acclaimed Virginia of Miami for the magical theatrical production, “The Journey: Egyptian Nights 2008” on Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m., at Pellissippi Performing Arts Center, 10915 Hardin Valley Road, Knoxville.
Virginia is one of today’s most sought-after performer and teacher of Middle Eastern dance. Knoxville’s WBIR-TV anchorwoman, Robin Wilhoit will open the program, and 10 percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Knoxville’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer.
Alexia, a University of Tennessee alumnus, currently teaches, performs, and promotes the art of belly dance in Blount, Knox, and Loudon Counties. She brings over 20 years of professional teaching and performing experience to the dance floor and concert arena.
The Journey: Egyptian Nights 2008 features choreography, costuming, and performers. This year’s program provides a glimpse into the rich and mystifying culture of the Middle East from the perspective of touring the Mediterranean, and offers a unique perspective on the world of international dance. The concert-length program is comprised of a blend of dances from Egypt, Spain, Morocco, and the Gulf region. In addition to Virginia, the show features Alexia and her Alexandria Dancers.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with show time at 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $18 in advance and $24 at the door. Student tickets (with ID) and children 6 and older are $10, children 5 and under enter free.
