Local musicians and dancers gave back to those following in their steps as Maryville Music Club held its annual scholarship concert at First United Methodist Church on March 31.
While Blount County is blessed with music programs in all three school systems and many local churches, the Maryville Music Club is intentional about seeing that the trend continues. They support young musicians who choose to go above and beyond in their art by attending master classes, music and dance camps and other special events. The club offers financial support to the young artists’ families through scholarships.
The scholarship concert was successful thanks to the time, efforts and talents of many local musicians and dancers including the Faithful Men of Fairview. Also adding her talents to the evening was Blount County Schools Music Specialist Tiffany Tipton who performed a vocal solo. The teachers and students of Artistic Dance Unlimited performed dance numbers and Heather Tipton and Cody Sokoll performed solo violin numbers, to name a few.
The scholarship fund enables the club to help high school students who are nominated by their teachers based on their qualifications. The students themselves state why they desire the scholarship and what their future aspirations are regarding their talents before they receive the funds.
