Jesse Hackworth recognized for volunteer service

Jesse Hackworth, 13, of Maryville has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Hackworth participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of Heritage Middle School, where he is a student.

Hackworth earned his award by delivering meals to the elderly for Mobile Meals in the Hubbard area of Blount County, picking up trash with the National Junior Honor Society, helping his grandmother clean apartments for rental, cooking meals for Riverwood, a facility for citizens with developmental disabilities, and planting trees at the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum.
