Courting Townsend

Duggan visits with Townsend, Walland residents in bid for circuit judgeship

Blount County General Sessions Judge David Duggan took his campaign to become circuit court judge to Townsend recently when two families held a reception in his honor.

The reception was held at the clubhouse at the Reserve at Tuckaleechee Cove just off East Lamar Alexander Parkway on March 27. Campaign committee member Peggy Lambert said the event was a reception as opposed to a fund-raiser.

“It was a meet and greet and was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Joni Maples and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell and Diana Headrick,” said Lambert. “There were approximately 175 people there.”

Duggan was thankful for the response. “I didn’t really know what to expect. You never do when you have an event like that. It was a phenomenal crowd,” he said.

Duggan said what he liked most about the response was that 80 to 90 percent of those present were not “Lincoln Day event” regulars.

“They were fresh faces,” said Duggan. “It was a tremendous turn out from folks in the Townsend and Walland communities. I was very appreciative of the fact they came out. It was a great night.”

Lambert said the campaign to win the Circuit Court judgeship is going well. “His events have been very well attended,” she said. “The support he has received everywhere has been overwhelming. David is working very hard, and he’s out meeting and greeting lots of people.”
