The chill is in the air, and the Junior Service League of Maryville is gearing up for Christmas.
For this service-minded organization, that means collecting funds to take care of 1,500 underprivileged children at Christmas. A major part of their fund-raising efforts will be on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the MasterCraft Mile, a race that annually draws more than 400 participants.
The MasterCraft Mile consists of a 1-mile dash, a 5K/3.2 mile run or walk, a 1-mile walk and the Tot Trot, a kid’s run. The race begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Springs Park. Donations are still being accepted for the event.
Registration for the race can be done early at www.active.com. Participants can also register the day of the race, beginning at noon at Sandy Springs Park. Registration is $25 for the 5K run, with a $5 discount if a new toy is brought for the Toys for Blount County drive.
Mastercraft Boat Compamy of Vonore is the primary sponsor for the MasterCraft Mile and all proceeds go to the Junior Service League’s Toys for Blount County project. Toy Trot. Online registration ends Saturday, Nov. 2, at noon.
