Richardson hosts bloggers in effort to raise $1 million for charities

On the evening of Sept. 11, about 20 people gathered upstairs in the Capitol Theater for a kickoff blog party for charity.

The event was the brainchild of motivational speaker Tim Richardson of Maryville as a way of raising money for charities around the world all while individuals are blogging or communicating with one another through online blogs. The event runs Oct. 27 through Nov. 17.

Richardson said the Sept. 11 live kick-off event was an intimate yet inspiring with a concert by singer/songwriter Jana Stanfield. “We had some of our first charities represented and, as the evening progressed, so did the synergistic vibe as it began to dawn on those there how powerful this thing could be,” he said. “It’s a brave endeavor, one that seeks to really impact those who need it. If we get 1,000 bloggers to raise $1,000 dollars, we will have raised $1 million to connect the globe for good.”

Richardson said that on Friday night, Oct. 26, there will be another event at the Capitol Coffee shop in downtown Maryville. The entertainment will include live music, comedy and even belly dancing. “One of the belly dancers is a breast cancer survivor and we hope to get her to tell her story,” Richardson said. “Of course, there will be bloggers blogging about causes they care about including breast cancer, melanoma and more.”

Part of the fund raising is through a download of singer/songwriter Jana Stanfield and other artists’ music. The musicians will join the bloggers in hosting a blog where they write about their favorite charity and encourage people to donate between Oct. 27 and Nov. 17.
