Library Calendar

TEEN PROGRAMS:

• Teen Central: Name of the newly-refurbished Teen area at the Library in the center stacks area past Biography and Reference.

• Watch for future teen program announcements regarding programs for young adults at the Blount County Public Library.

EVENTS: Lectures, Speakers, Workshops:

• Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 12, 13 and 14, “Foothills Fall Festival” by City of Maryville, in the Greenbelt Park area around the library and Court House.

• Tuesday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m.,”Blount County Board of Trustees Meeting” in the Board Room.

• Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18, 19 and 20, “Used Book Sale,” fundraiser to sell more than 40,000 books-most available for $1-$2--by the Friends of the Blount County Public Library (FOL):

• Thursday, Oct. 18, 12 noon until 6 p.m. “Members Only Sale,” an opportunity for FOL members to purchase books before other members of the public are admitted to the sale. FOL memberships are available at the door, in the Library lower level.

• Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., “Used Book Sale - Open to the Public,” in the Library lower level.

• Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m., “By This Christmas Moon,” author program by local teacher/poet, Sam Williams, in the Dorothy Herron Room B.

EXHIBITS: October 1-31

• “Horses of East Tennessee” Olga Rader Oils Exhibit, six easel spaces in sitting areas of the Main Gallery.

• “Rocky Top Decorative Painters” exhibit by Dixie Porter in two vertical cases and one cube in the Entry Rotunda.

• “Judy Dudley Photography” photography exhibit on Art Panels at the Reading Rotunda of the Main Gallery.

• “Maryville College Homecoming” exhibit, in one cube in the Entry Rotunda.

• “4-H: A Timeless Tradition” exhibit of Blount County Extension by Sharon Davis in Genealogy Display Case at the Reference Desk.

•“Curtis Halbert Young” exhibit by Larry Stephens in two display cases in the Main Gallery.

• “Blount County Arts & Crafts Guild Member Artwork” Exhibit on Art Wall at library’s Bookmark Café and two easels in sitting areas of the Main Gallery. Artists are Gloria Nelson and Linda Waterhouse.

•“Dolls of the World” exhibit of dolls donated to the Blount County Public Library in one cube in the Entry Rotunda.

• Display by Circulation Department on Circulation Desk Cabinets and New Books Shelves in the Main Gallery.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS:

Children’s Library: 865-273-1414. Unless otherwise indicated, all children’s programs are in the children’s library.

October Special Programs:

• Saturday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m., Fire Prevention Week Program will be presented in the children’s reading pond for all ages. The Maryville Fire Department will demonstrate fire safety tips for children and will have a fire truck in the library parking lot for everyone to explore.

Foreign Language Story Hours:

Community volunteers will present bilingual stories and crafts for all interested children. Please call the library to verify that story hour will be held as scheduled.

•Library Skills Workshops will resume on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in Nov. Children must be readers to sign up and participate.

• NEW Mes Amis French Story Hour will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Monthly Surprise Display will be showcased in the children’s library office window. The monthly topic will not be publicized, but children can guess the theme by reading clues on the library’s website. Visit the children’s library to see if you guessed the correct display topic.

These programs are free and open to the public. The Blount County Public Library is located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
