Canvas cuts, colors to help charity

Canvas Hair Design had one of its busier days on Oct. 22 -- a day they normally would have been closed.

The team and management of the recently opened salon decided to log additional time at the salon for a good cause - the New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center.

Erin Hall said she and her husband, salon owner/cutting specialist Travis Hall, wanted to help an area charity as they had done when they had a much larger studio in Knoxville. They chose New Hope based on comments from customers.

Response was good from customers on the special day of hair style sessions. “It was great. We had probably over 70 percent booked,” said Hall, who is both receptionist and manager.

The salon collected $2,500 for New Hope. Hall said a large number of customers got hair colorings and more than that opted for hair cuts. Often salons will only donate a portion of proceeds from a certain day and often limit the fundraiser to specific hours in the day, she said.

Hall said they gave all the proceeds to New Hope and even invited their usual customers to come by the salon . “We encouraged our current clients to book that day,” she said. “The stylists had a good time. It’s not every day you get to contribute to something good.”
