Maryville College Concert Band presents the Music of War and Peace

The Maryville College-Community Concert Band will perform a free fall concert Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Heritage High School titled “Music of War and Peace.” The concert will portray the surges and calms of a nation during the time of war and then the ensuing peace.

Featured will be two stirring marches plus “Mars, The Bringer of War” from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.” Also on the program is “At Dawn They Slept,” by Jay Bocook, which depicts, the U.S. military presence at Pearl Harbor preceding Dec. 7, 1941.

Among other selections will be the very dramatic and familiar “Victory at Sea” by Richard Rodgers, transcribed for band by Robert Russell Bennett. The concert will conclude with Harold Bennett’s march “Military Escort.”
