Maryville College announces revisions for awards

The admissions office at Maryville College recently announced revisions to its Presidential and Dean’s scholarships, which are two of the most prestigious merit-based awards offered to first-year students.

Starting in 2012, any first-year student who submits an application before Jan. 15 and has a minimum 3.50 GPA and a 28 ACT composite or 1240 SAT combined critical reading and math score is automatically named a Presidential Scholar and awarded $15,000. A renewable scholarship, the Presidential would be worth $60,000 over a four-year period.

A first-year student who submits an application before Jan. 15 and has a minimum 3.50 GPA and a 24 ACT composite or 1090 SAT combined critical reading and math score is automatically named a Dean’s Scholar and awarded $10,000. A renewable scholarship, the Dean’s would be worth $40,000 over a four-year period.

Both Presidential and Dean’s Scholars can compete for additional scholarship dollars by attending one of the college’s Scholarship Days. Presidential Scholars can earn up to full tuition while Dean’s Scholars can compete for up to $5,000 more.

“Since its founding, Maryville College has been committed to making an education affordable to deserving students. Our scholarship program supports that commitment,” said Maryville College Vice President for Enrollment, Ned Willard. “With these revisions to two of our top scholarships, we hope to attract - and eventually enroll - an even larger group of students who both deserve this type of educational experience and will thrive in our rigorous curriculum.”

Admissions administrators also announced a new scholarship program entitled Chapel Scholars. Awarded to entering first-year students who have experience and interest in worship leading. Students receiving this scholarship are expected to be active participants in chapel leadership through the Samuel Tyndale Wilson Center for Campus Ministry.
