Does the blood of East Tennesseans really run orange? Or is Big Blue going to come out on top? That’s the question pending this year as Medic Regional Blood Center celebrates the 20th Battle of the Orange and Blue, Nov. 12-16.
The Battle of the Orange and Blue is a blood drive competition between UT fans and University of Kentucky supporters to see which group can bring in the most blood donations. Please note that this competition takes place one week prior to the battle on the football field due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Medic will be at Blount Memorial Hospital on Friday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. collecting blood donations. All donors will receive a free Tennessee vs. Kentucky T-shirt and a coupon for a free pint of Baskin Robbins ice cream. There are several blood drive locations scheduled, please call 865-524-3074 or visit www.medicblood.com for more details.
This fun spirited event helps alleviate blood shortages through the holidays. The Battle of the Orange and Blue assures an adequate blood supply during the holiday season for patients at all of our area hospitals. Medic Regional Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood products to Blount Memorial Hospital as well as 28 other area hospitals. All eligible donors are encouraged to participate.
After 19 years, the competition is now tied. UK and Tennessee have each won nine times and tied once.
