Sen. Finney honored for work with disabled

State Sen. Raymond Finney and State Rep. Joe Armstrong (D-Knoxville) were honored by the Tennessee Disability Coalition in a ceremony in Knoxville on Nov. 1.

The Tennessee Disability Coalition is an alliance of organizations and individuals which have joined to promote the full and equal participation of men, women, and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. The coalition hosted the Knoxville event as part of the national Road to Freedom Tour.

Sen. Finney was awarded a Certificate of Freedom “in honor of his work to secure the rights and freedoms of people with disabilities.”

In accepting the award, Sen. Finney discussed the work that lies ahead to grant equal and fair access in all aspects of work and life for disabled persons. He expressed his admiration for disabled persons, who overcome obstacles that people without disabilities may not even notice.

“America will never be completely free, until there is no discrimination against any person because of gender, race, age, faith, or disability,” he said.
