Rain didn’t stop a determined group of 300 to 350 walkers from raising more than $24,000 in the 2007 Arthritis Walk at Maryville College.

Rain on May 5 forced walkers into Bartlett Hall at the beginning of the Saturday morning event where people were turning in their donations and pledges. It didn’t take long for the walkers to pull on raincoats and rain suits and brave the elements.

Neighborhood and corporate teams together with school kids took to a course at the college and completed the walk despite the inclement weather.
In total, $24,882 was raised in the effort.

Top teams in the walk were:

  • AlcoaTenn Federal Credit Union -- $3,864
  • Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic -- $1,814
  • Pigeon Forge Primary Partners -- $1,500
  • East Tennessee Medical Group -- $1,403
  • Wishbones -- $1,190

The two individuals who raised the most on their own was Sarah Lawson of the AlcoaTenn team, who raised $2,064; and Ginny Sutera, who raised $1,078.
