Welcoming the soldiers home

A crowd gathered at the McGhee Tyson Airport terminal on Tuesday, Feb. 27, to welcome 11 members of the 134th Air Refueling Wing security forces back from a six-month tour in Iraq.

About 150 family and friends of the deployed personnel gathered at the fountains in the terminal to welcome their loved ones.

Second Lt. Jaime Oakley said many of the individuals who went to Iraq have deployed several times to either Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as other state-side locations.

While in Iraq, some of the duties the personnel fulfilled included working in the joint headquarters coordinating base security, managing shifts for all security forces at Balad Air Base and perimeter security duties.

The group consisted of two women and nine men.

Leslie Karnowski attended the homecoming and took these photos for Blount Today.
