The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club at Heritage High School recently celebrated National FCCLA week. During the week of Feb. 12-16, the students participated in many different activities, inclulding doing something special for their families, learning about careers, a book drive for Haven House and reading to younger children.

Some of the individuals who addressed the more than 250 students included U.S. Airlines attendant Tammy Harrison, "Daisy the Clown" Debbie Debuty, case manager David Leiss, Lisa Lonas with HGTV, career counselor Jennifer Sawyer, truck driver Johnny Dixon, HHS cafeteria manager Phyllis Nuchols and former Disney World employee David Weitlesbach. Also visiting were Debby Dunn with Olympia Child Development Center and Conni Roberts with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Teachers Linda Goins, Ellen Green, Vickie McCall and Debby Ashburn coordinated the career day event.

Harrison said when she graduated from school she didn’t have the opportunities students have today to consider the different occupations, such as those featured during FCCLA Week.

"Today kids need guidance to know there’s more out there," she said. "Kids need to know they can do anything and accomplish anything."
