Spelling Bee puts word knowledge on the line

The 80th Blount County Spelling Bee was held at Friendsville Elementary on Feb. 15. Students from Blount County, Maryville City and Alcoa City school systems participated in the event, as did students from Maryville Christian School. The Spelling Bee was open to students in grades three through eight.

Taking home the honors were:

  • Alex Goldberger of Alcoa Middle was the Alcoa City winner, the grades sixth through eighth winner and he was the grand champion.
  • Isaac Parrish, a Maryville Middle School student, was Maryville City winner and overall runner-up.
  • Drew Davis of Eagleton Middle School was the winner for Blount County.
  • Kate Goodfin, a Fort Craig Elementary School student, was elementary school winner for grades third through the fifth.
