Honoring a trailblazer

At the Blount County Association of Realtors Annual Installation and Awards Banquet Saturday, there was a chance for members and guests to look to the future and honor their heritage.

Blount County Mayor Jerry Cunningham spoke to the group at the dinner and party at Royal Oaks Country Club. He spoke about the value of the industry in the county and of contributions of realtors to the county’s economy.

When time came to present the premiere award of the evening, the group gave a nod to its heritage. Clara Peals won the Blount County Association of Realtors Realtor of the Year award.

Peals was one of the first women realtors in the state of Tennessee and was a charter member of the Tennessee Council of Realtors.

A happy Peals did a dance to the tune of "Rocky Top’ as she picked up her award.
