The Blount County Civil War Round Table (BCCWRT) -- meets the last Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 429 Sandy Springs Road, Maryville. Citizens for Blount County’s Future -- will meet at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Room 315 of the Courthouse. Our guest will be Jim Folts of Citizens for Better Government, who will speak on the necessity of having policies and procedures in place in local government and also show comparisons of budget management between Blount County and other neighboring counties. East Tennessee Jazz Society -- next get together will be held from 4 - 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, at Cha-Cha, located at
5130 Kingston Pike in the Homburg section of Knoxville. It will be an afternoon of great jazz, featuring the piano artistry of
Mark Meyer and his musical friends from various. On tap will be some ragtime, boogie-woogie, stride piano and Texas swing. On hand with Mark will be Matt Duffy-Drums, Burton Akers-bass, Brian Arrowwood-violin and Junior Mercer-steel guitar, plus some drop-in musical guests. Taoist Tai Chi Society to hold an open house from 6:30 - 8 p.m., Tuesday Jan 9, at FUMC, located at 804 Montvale Station Rd. A 17 movement demo will be executed by members of the Knoxville Branch of the International Taoist Tai Chi Society and students from previous classes. The martial art movements increase a person’s flexibility and strength and improves their balance. It can be practiced by people of all ages and physical conditions. The beginners classes will continue each Tuesday from 6:30 - 8 p.m. with completion of the 108 movements of the Tai Chi set in April. There are a fair number of repeated sequences of steps.

‘The Lost Cajuns of East Tennessee -- a social club of East Tennessee residents from the state of Louisiana, meets at 6:30 p.m., every third Thursday of the month, at Bayou Bay Restaurant in Seymour. The Blount County Friends of the Library -- will hold their quarterly book sale from Monday, Jan. 18 - Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Blount County Public Library, 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville. On Thurs., Jan 18, the sale is open noon to 6 p.m., for members only; Friends memberships will be on sale at the door. On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, the sale is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the general public. All proceeds from this sale will be earmarked to buy children’s books for the library’s collection.

American Cancer Society’s Look Good?Feel Better -- meets from 10 - 11:30 a.m., the second Monday of each month, at Cherokee Professional Park conference room, and is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center -- will be hosting the Smoky Mountain Quilters Association from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.,Saturday, Jan. 13. The Quilts will be on display for guests to examine, and Association members will be making a quilt on site to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Children and adults will have the opportunity to learn quilting. Visitors may bring their quilts to be examined. Maryville’s Weight Loss Surgery Support Group -- meet at 10 a.m., the second Saturday of each month, at Pellissippi State College Library in Maryville. The purpose of this group is for those people who are thinking about having gastric surgery (Bypass or Band) for weight loss. Support questions and answers from people that have gone through the procedure. Find out the good and bad news about issues involved with this major surgery.
