The five seniors received a Certificate of Merit and a recognition pin for their accomplishments. Zachary Nyein received a $100 scholarship in the essay contest and has been notified that he is the winner of the Appalachian District in the state competition. The state winner will be announced at the TDAR Luncheon on May 5.
DAR Good Citizen Award winners:
Haley Stinnett is a senior at William Blount High School. She is the
daughter of Gary and Rhonda Stinnett of Maryville. She is president of
the Beta Club and Thespian Society this year. She has been a member of
the Scholars Bowl Team and served as a representative to the
Blount County School Board. She is a member of the Drama Club, Student
Council, Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics Honor Society), National English
Honor Society, and Culture Club. Haley has worked with the Harmony
Adoption Agency helping to promote a golf ball drop and golf tournament
with profits going to adoption awareness in Tennessee. She is also
involved in Reaching Out to the Community (ROC), Boys and Girls Club of
America, and the Angel Tree. After graduation, Haley plans to study
biology while earning her undergraduate degree and then attend medical
school.
Jack Wilson is a senior at Maryville High School. He is the son of David and Cynthia Wilson of Maryville. He is president of the Interact Club and vice president of the Senior Class and National Honor Society. He has earned a band letter and been active in the MHS Drum Line and Concert Band, track team and swim team. He has served his community by working with Habitat for Humanity on the building crew and serving as the team leader of the Trick or Cans for Second Harvest Food Collection. He plans to attend Belmont University and will major in science with plans to study Dentistry and Orthodontia.
Cody Blackford is a senior at Alcoa High School. He is the son of Jim and Lee Ann Blackford of Lenoir City. He is president of the Student Council and in the National Honor Society. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been on the wrestling team for four years serving as captain for two years. His awards include AAA Award and Committed to Excellence Award during his sophomore and junior years. He plans to attend the US Air Force Academy after graduation.
Zachary Nyein is a senior at Heritage High School. He is the son of Cathy Nyein of Alcoa. He is president of the Student Council and in the National Honor Society. He has been the drum major of the Alcoa Marching Band for three years and played in the Concert Band. He attended the Governors School for the Arts and All-State Chorus. Zachary was awarded the Rotary Club "Student of the Month" and earned Student of Distinction and Academic Letters for three years. He has served the community by being involved in the Second Harvest, Bread for Life, Angel Tree, and playing music at nursing homes. He plans to attend the University of Tennessee and major in music.
Amelia Satterfield is a senior at Maryville Christian School. She is the daughter of Donna and Doug Satterfield of Maryville. She is vice president of the Student Council and her class. She is a member of the Beta Club and a student representative on the Spiritual Life Committee and Leadership Retreat Committee. She has played varsity basketball and volleyball while being a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes for four years. She enjoys serving others and being a good example for the younger students.
