The Mary E. Tippitt Memorial Library in Townsend held a contest in November to name their new mascot. The winning name for the large stuffed bear was “Tippy.” The three winners were Andrew Carter, Joseph Millsaps, and Tera Vilaire. Each winner received a coupon for a large pizza courtesy of Townsend’s Pizza Hut and store manager Chris Henry. Thanks to all the children who entered the contest and to Pizza Hut for providing the prizes.

The Townsend Book Club meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. in the library. The books for the next two months are “Christmas Letters” by Debbie Macomber for December and “Thirteen Moons” by Charles Frazier for January.

The Mary E. Tippitt Library is located at 120 Tiger Drive in Townsend. Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday from noonto 6 p.m., and Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a drop box by the front door for after-hours returns.

The library will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25 for Christmas, and Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday Jan. 1 for New Years.
