Groups to sing carols to ‘chase off Grinch’ who stole tax freeze

Two Blount County citizens groups are taking to the courthouse steps to protest commissioners who are refusing to pass a property tax freeze for seniors.

Linda King with Citizens for Blount County’s Future said her group and Citizens for Better Government will gather on the steps of the Blount County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, to sing Christmas carols led by Ron McTigue of Blount County.

“We’re chasing off the Grinch of Christmas, and the commissioners who are going to vote to defer the senior tax freeze until 2008, which means it would not take effect until 2009,” she said.
