An Oak Park, Ill., United Way executive will soon be making her way to Maryville.
Michelle Hankes was recently named incoming president and CEO after the United Way of Blount County Board of Directors voted unanimously to hire her.
Hankes currently serves as the chief professional officer for the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. She oversees all operations of the member United Way in the Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park region of Metro Chicago. Her duties include community building, fundraising, budgeting and board member development.
Previously, Hankes worked as executive director for 4Cs, Community Coordinated Child Care Resource and Referral Agency in Iowa City, Iowa and she served as the program development manager for Girl Scouts of the Mississippi Valley, Inc. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Rock Island, Ill.
Hankes has a B.A. in political science/history, a B.A. in music performance/theory from Eureka College, and she received her M.S. in science education/muselogy-geology from the University of Iowa. Hankes also received a certificate of Non-Profit Management from Iowa State University.
She is married with two children and has family in the Maryville area. Her official starting date with United Way of Blount County will be Jan. 7, 2008. She will replace Sandra Davis who will retire at the end of January 2008 after a career of 17 years as president and CEO of United Way of Blount County.
