Retirement reception for Dr. Mike Dalton -- will be Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the Maryville High School cafeteria. This event is open to the public.

Blount County Theater Group -- is looking for actors and actresses of all ages and types in the Blount County area who are interested in forming a new theatrical group to help provide high quality entertainment in the Blount County area. Beginning in January 2008, the group will meet on a regular basis to explore various acting techniques through games, exercises, improvisation and light scene work. They will also develop a list of possible productions for the future with a goal of eventually performing full productions of plays. The Cumberland Playhouse Players-- will perform their hit Christmas play “A Sander’s Family Christmas” on Thursday, Dec 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church on Old Niles Ferry Road. The show is sponsored by the Faithful Men of Fairview United Methodist Church who will perform at 7 p.m. All funds will go towards supporting their mission work in Latvia. The community is invited. Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center -- is taking tax deductible donations of a minimum of $10 for Ball of Hope Holiday Ornaments. All are one-of-a-kind ornaments, painted by volunteers of the center to support their efforts to help the victims of child abuse. Each one is individually boxed with a hand-tied bow and ready for giving.

Blount County Business Hugs For Soldiers organization --is collecting packages for the Christmas for a Soldier campaign. Anyone interested in helping our soldiers can make a package using a gallon-size Ziplock bag lined with Christmas paper and filled with goodies and a card. Drop off packages at Lisa Thomas Salon on Sanderson St. in Alcoa. There are over 600 soldiers waiting to be adopted by patriotic citizens. Citizens for Blount County’s Future and Citizens for Better Government-- will hold their joint meeting Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blount County Library. Reorganization plans will be discussed and committees developed to work toward future plans of finding and supporting citizens to run for public office.
