Sipping and shopping: Boyd Thomas celebrates opening with champagne reception

Toasting a grand opening amidst the elegant and stylish offerings of Boyd Thomas Clothing was an event for all ages on Sunday, Dec. 2. Friends, family, patrons and the curious stopped by to take a look at the new store in downtown Maryville that specializes in stylish and classic men’s and women’s clothing.

The afternoon was exciting for Miriam Womac, who came to congratulate son Bill and daughter-in-law Marti on their new venture. She was also interested to see a poster-size black-and-white of herself and her late husband, Charlie, hanging behind the cash register. The happy couple, Miriam said, were in Great Lakes, Ill., on the day the photo was taken -- July 6, 1945. Charlie was a Navy man, and his young bride was to give birth to Bill nine months after the classic photo was taken.

Bob Hirche brought his mother, Alice, to shop as well, as the elegant lady was getting rave reviews for her own sense of style from patrons at Boyd Thomas.

The store is truly a family and friends affair, with Bill and Marti both holding down the fort along with daughter Emily and dear friend Kay Overbey, both of whom are working in Boyd Thomas. The shop, which is located at 227 West Broadway, is now open for business.
