Maryville man killed in trailer fire

A Maryville man was killed and another injured Dec. 1 in an overnight mobile home fire.

The identity of the victim was not released pending the results of the autopsy which is scheduled for Monday morning at the University Of Tennessee Medical Center. The man who was injured, Mark Anthony Payne, 24, Edna Garland Road, Maryville, was treated at Blount Memorial Hospital for minor burns to his face and nose, and released.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Blount County Fire Department, responded to the report of a fire at 802 Edna Garland Road at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2. When emergency personnel arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed. Payne, who lives in a neighboring residence, had attempted to enter the mobile home and was slightly injured. After the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found in the living room of the trailer.

A fire investigator with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fire. The investigation is ongoing; however, the fire does not appear suspicious in nature.
