Head Start program recruiting children in Blount County

The Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority Head Start Program is presently recruiting three and four year old children for their centers in Blount County.

Head Start began in 1965 under the Department of Health, Education and Welfare as a program for preschoolers. It is an all-inclusive program providing health and dental services, speech therapy, social services support and referrals, transportation to most centers, parent involvement and training, developmental screenings, pre-readiness educational programs and transition, and a nutritional program which provides two-thirds of the daily nutritional needs of children.

Head Start is also interested in recruiting children with disabilities or other health impairments who require special education and/or related services.

The program is designed for preschoolers who meet certain eligibility requirements set by federal guidelines.

For more information or to enroll a child, please contact The Head Start Family Service Workers office at 865-982-1141.
