The Chevrolet Camaro convertible will be introduced to East
Tennessee at the News Sentinel Auto Show 2007, which begins
Thursday, April 19 through Sunday, April 22 at the Knoxville Convention Center.
The Camaro, in bright orange, is scheduled for production in late
2008, with sales expected to begin in 2009.
Trimmed in gunmetal gray sport stripes, the car is based on the original Camaro concept and is actually last years concept Camaro -- minus the top.
Other "hot-off-the-assembly-line" offerings include:
- Suzukis Road Race SX4, built by Road Race Motorsports of
- Fords Shelby GT 500, 08 Super Duty, Focus, Taurus and
- Ford concept cars Super Chief and Bronco.
- Chrysler Airflite concept vehicle, an "American coupe-like design
with functionality of a mainstream global sedan."
- Jeeps Willy II concept, patterned like the original Willy
model of World War II
- Dodge Dakota prototype.
Show hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 19-20; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 21; and noon to 6 p.m. April 22. Daily admission is $8 per person, ages 13 to 64 and $5 per person ages 65 and older or ages 6 to 12. There is a family rate of $20 for 2 adults and 2 children. Friday is college day, where college students can purchase one ticket and receive one free for another college student.

Friday is deadline for Leadership Blount award
Nominations for the 2007 Community Leadership Award given through Leadership Blount County must reach the Leadership Blount office by close of business on Friday, April 13, says Cathy Cate, Leadership Blount executive director.
In its eighth year, the Community Leadership Award recognizes
sustained leadership in a variety of community positions. Nominees are
judged on the following:
- Demonstrating a sustained commitment to leadership in Blount
- Exercising leadership in a variety of community positions
- Helping to develop future community leaders
- Using leadership positions to promote the development of Blount County.

The awards will be presented at a Community Leadership Award breakfast, hosted by Leadership Blount, on Tuesday, May 8, at Maryville First United Methodist Church. Memorial golf tourney to benefit Alcoa Schools
The Tim Bledsoe Memorial Golf Tournament is named for a man who loved golf and education, says organizers Herman Thompson. Tim was an Alcoa graduate, Alcoa city commissioner who died of cancer at age 68 in April of 2006. Friends and family have named the tournament to raise funds for Alcoa city schools in his honor.
The tournament will be Saturday, June 2, at Pine Lakes Golf Course. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., followed by tee time at 12:30. Format is shot gun start, 4-man SWAT, and cost is $65 per person.
The tournament will feature three flights with awards given in each category, as well as recognition for Closest to the Pin on par 3s.
