Southland Books will be closed from Friday, April 13 - Sunday, April 15 and will re-open Monday, April 16 at their new location at 801 East Broadway, in the old Drake Auto Parts building.

A benefit lunch for Paul Greene -- will be from 12 noon - 3 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at the Alnwick school gym. Paul has End Stage Liver Disease and is awaiting a liver transplant. All proceeds will go to help with expenses. There will be live entertainment, featuring Mr. J.J. Tyson and The Moonlight Memories Band. There will be homemade chili, hot dogs, coleslaw and drinks. Kindergarten Roundup -- will be at Alcoa Elementary from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Thursday, April 19 and from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Friday, April 20. Incoming Kindergartners will be tested during these times, testing will take 30-45 minutes.

Little River Round Up -- will be Saturday, April 28. Check-in is 8 - 10 a.m. at Thompson-Brown House. Clean-up lasts until completed or until 2 p.m. All are invited to enjoy barbeque and bluegrass that evening. Tickets may be purchased and admission is free for volunteers. The 24th annual Maryville High School Girl’s basketball camp -- will be held at Maryville High School, James C. Campbell gymnasium, Tuesday, May 29 - Friday, June 1. Girl’s entering grades first through ninth may attend. Camp time will be 9 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. daily, and the gym will open at 8 a.m. each day for those needing to arrive early. Maryville’s Weight Loss Surgery Support Group -- meet at 10 a.m., the second Saturday of each month, at Pellissippi State College Library in Maryville. The purpose of this group is for those people who are thinking about having gastric surgery (Bypass or Band) for weight loss. Baton twirling classes -- are being offered through Carole’s School of Baton in conjunction with the Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation. Classes for ages 4 and up are held at the Springbrook Recreation Center in Alcoa. National accredited instructors Carole Flynn and Connie Williams teach the basic twirls along with dance-twirl, strutting, and twirling routines. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the area Christmas parade, annual spring recital, twirling competitions and try out for award winning teams. The Joshua Resource Center -- is enrolling new participants for the Fall session New Beginnings CWJC(R) program.
