StaffingSolutions celebrated National Staffing week
StaffingSolutions of Maryville joined staffing companies across the country in celebrating National Staffing Employee Week, Sept. 18-24, established by the American Staffing Association to pay tribute to the 2.9 million Americans who are employed by staffing firms every day.

Businesses, according to ASA, tap staffing companies for quality talent in virtually all occupational sectors, from call center service representatives to skilled tradesmen to airplane pilots to attorneys. ASA also reports that 79% of temporary and contract employees work full-time (35 hours or more per week), virtually the same as the rest of the work force.

"National Staffing Employee Week is a salute to the important and talented temporary and contract employees who actively contribute to the growth and maintenance of our economy," said Candy Cooke, Branch Operations Manager of StaffingSolutions , Maryville.

Centerfield collectibles gets new home
Centerfield Collectibles has moved to a new location in Maryville.

John Tereshko’s sports memorabilia store was located at 131 West Broadway Avenue in downtown. Earlier this summer he moved to location at 2413 East Broadway Avenue and the Air National Guardsman said the change is giving him more room and more options.

"We really liked it down there," he said of the downtown location they vacated to make room for a new coffee shop, Capitol Coffee. The business owners downtown took care of each other and Tereshko said he will miss that. Moving to a new location had challenges, he said.

One of the challenges is letting his current customers know where he is while at the same time building new relationships with customers from the area surrounding his new store. So far, business has been strong. "We are doing better than we did our first month (at the old location)," he said.

Unlike his downtown location, the new location offers space for stools and tables where customers can look at trading cards.
The former location had 500 square feet of space. This new location boasts 1,240 square feet of space. "You could put the old store in here twice and then some," he said.

When he and his wife moved their operations, they didn’t do it alone. "When we moved, our customers helped us move. Three customers and their wives and kids helped us," he said. "They were really amazing.

Lash to present at Occupational Health National Conference
Blount Memorial Occupational Health director Denia Lash has been invited to present at the 20th Annual RYAN Associates National Conference this week in Philadelphia. Her presentation focuses on the benefits of on-site nursing programs.

RYAN Associates was established in 1985 and specializes in occupational health program development and professional education. The group focuses on enhancing occupational health program profitability through operational efficiency, high-quality care, customer/patient satisfaction, and product and service alignment.

Lash is a recipient of the RYAN Associate’s Certificate of Achievement in Occupational Health Practice Management. She has been the director of occupational health programs at Blount Memorial for 22 years.

Established in 1983 as an on-site nursing program for area businesses and industries, Blount Memorial Occupational Health today provides a wide range of health care services including health and safety programs, rehabilitation, physician-staffed clinics and consultation services.

MPLN Names Crawford Associate Director
Molecular Pathology Laboratory Network, Inc. (MPLN) recently named Eric Crawford, PhD, the associate director of the cytogenetics laboratory, which provides advanced services for cancer, prenatal, constitutional and molecular cytogenetics tests

"Eric’s experience and expertise in this specialized field will be a great asset to us and our clients as we continue to expand our laboratory and services," said Dr. Katy Phelan, PhD, FACMG, director of MPLN’s cytogenetics laboratory.

A cytogeneticist and molecular geneticist, Crawford is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics. He is certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics in both clinical cytogenetics and clinical molecular genetics. Prior to joining MPLN, Crawford spent four years as the director of a cytogenetics laboratory in Norfolk, Va. He was also an assistant director of the cytogenetics laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Crawford has co-authored several publications, on such diverse topics as ovarian cancer, chromosome abnormalities in autism and Albright’s Hererditary Osteodystorphy, and ovarian transplants in twins with premature ovarian failure. He was heavily involved in post-graduate education as a faculty member of Washington University School of Medicine and at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was involved in the genetics of medical students, pathology and OB/GYN residents. Crawford also helped develop the genetics curriculum for the on-line master’s degree program in embryology and andrology at the Jones Institute of Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Crawford earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 1988 from Oklahoma Christian College in Oklahoma City and earned a doctorate in medical genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1994. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical cytogenetics at the Greenwood Genetic Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical molecular genetics at Greenwood and Washington University School of Medicine.
