Psychiatrist Dr. Veronica Gubatan has joined Blount Memorial Hospitals active medical staff and will see patients at the
Parkway Psychiatric Service office located on the fourth floor of the Blount Memorial Physician Office Building.
Gubatan received a medical degree from Saint Louis University College of Medicine in Baguio City, Philippines in 1994. She completed a medical internship at Saint Louis Sacred Heart Hospital, also in the Philippines, in 1995 and a residency program in general psychiatry at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City in 2002.
Most recently, Gubatan was a psychiatrist with Cherokee Health Systems in Morristown. Shes also previously worked as a psychiatrist at Woodridge Hospital in Johnson City.
Gubatan is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Richard Shuey joins BMH ative medical staff
Psychiatrist Dr. Richard Shuey has joined Blount Memorials active medical staff. He will see patients at the Parkway Psychiatric Service office located on the fourth floor of the Blount Memorial Physician Office Building.
Shuey received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Chicago in Illinois in 1988. In 1992, Shuey earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill.
In 1995, Shuey completed an adult psychiatry residential program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, just after completing an internship with the University of Chicago Hospitals in 1993.
Most recently, Shuey completed a two-year child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship with the University of Illinois - Chicago Medical Center.
Shuey is a member of the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.
Ashley Tharp joins BMH P.R./Marketing Team
Ashley Tharp has joined the Blount Memorial Hospital marketing department as public relations/marketing assistant. Tharp received a bachelors degree in communications from the University of Tennessee in May 2005 and was awarded a
Chancellors Citation for Outstanding Professional Promise.
While in college, Tharp served as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and as the director of UTs student run PR firm, PRConcepts. She was named PR student of the year in 2005 and was a recipient of the PRSSA National Gold Key award in 2004. Tharp also served on the Deans Student Advisory Council, and was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.
Also as a student, Tharp interned in the UT public relations office where she generated news releases, created the UT daily news summary and assisted with various communications campaigns.
Prior to joining Blount Memorial, she worked as a marketing and
communications specialist for EnerNex Corporation where she created and
edited company newsletters, collateral and press releases. She also did
meeting and tradeshow planning.
Tharp, a native of Knox County, is a graduate of Powell High School and the daughter of Jeff Tharp of Powell and Teresa Cooper of Heiskell.
Miller Certified for x-rays
Blount Memorial Occupational Health Center at Tellico West certified medical assistant and site coordinator Whitney Miller now holds an X-ray operator limited certificate from the state of Tennessee. This allows Miller to perform chest and extremities X-rays, which include hands, feet, arms and legs, in the Monroe County office.
To earn the certificate, Miller completed classroom training as well as clinical training at the health center and Blount Memorial Hospital.
Miller is a seven-year employee of Blount Memorial Hospital. She
graduated with an associates of applied science degree
from Cleveland State University in 1999.
