Maryville JV volleyball win Foothills Classic
The Maryville High School junior varsity volleyball team won the Foothills Classic Junior Varsity Volleyball Gold Division Championship on Sept. 23.

Sixteen teams were included in the tournament held at Maryville and Heritage high schools. Maryville, coached by Lee Huffaker, went undefeated in pool play, beating Gibbs, Powell and Sevier County. The Lady Rebels then defeated Christian Academy Knoxville, Catholic and Webb in the finals of the tournament gold division.

Eagleton advances to TMSAA playoffs
The Eagleton Royals football team beat Rockwood Middle School, 30-20, to finish the season at 4-4 and qualify for the Class AA Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association playoffs.

This is the first year since 1985 season that Eagleton has concluded the year without a losing record. John Luke Click and Patrick West had a pair of touchdowns each for Eagleton in the win over Rockwood. Chad Everett added a fifth. West was 7-of-13 passing for 111 yards.

The Royals begin playoff action on Oct. 19.

Parks & Rec accepting applications for athletic grants
The Maryville/Alcoa/Blount County Parks and Recreation Commission is currently accepting applications for its Youth Athletic Grant Program.

The program is funded by the Blount County government and administered by Parks and Recreation. Grant applications may be submitted by organizations servicing youth athletic programs in Blount County which are not affiliated with religious organizations, schools or other governmental agencies.

Applications and program guidelines are now available at the Parks & Rec. office, located at 316 S. Everett High Road in Maryville. A detailed application must be submitted by Oct. 31 to be considered.
