The Blount County Chapter of the League of Women Voters -- will hold its December meeting from 6 - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the County Courthouse, Room 433. Plans for upcoming activities, including a retreat in January will be discussed. The League is open to anyone over 18 who is interested in making Blount County a better place to live.

Keep Blount Beautiful -- is hosting a Pioneer Christmas, an open house at the Thompson Brown House from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1.

Olympia Athletic Club -- will host a Toys for Tots collection drive, all day, Friday, Dec. 1. Non-members who bring in a toy that day can workout for free. Blount County Arts and Crafts Guild -- will present the second ‘House of Santa Mouse’ Christmas show from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, and from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Blount County Library on Cusick Street, in Maryville. Blount Mansion Visitors Center-- will host a reception for an art exhibit by Bo Bradford. The event will take place in the Blount Mansion Visitors Center, located at 200 W. Hill Ave., in Knoxville. Live music, wine, appetizers and tours of the Mansion will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.The art exhibit will be on display from November 1-30. The Living Nativity – will be Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Greenbelt Pavilion in Maryville. A cast of actors and live animals will portray the events of that holy time. Each performance lasts approximately 20 minutes and will begin every 30 minutes. The first performance begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by one at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and the last performance begins at 8:30 each evening. After the performance there will be time to visit with the cast and animals. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening at the pavilion and each family will receive a small gift which will serve as a remembrance of the special evening. Maryville’s Weight Loss Surgery Support Group -- meet at 10 a.m., the second Saturday of each month, at Pellissippi State College Library in Maryville. The purpose of this group is for those people who are thinking about having gastric surgery (Bypass or Band) for weight loss. Support questions and answers from people that have gone through the procedure. Find out the good and bad news about issues involved with this major surgery.

AYSO Region 1159 -- an all-volunteer organization, has completed open registration for fall but still has openings for boys and girls in several age groups to complete teams. Players ages 10- 18 are invited for U12, U14, U16, and U19 teams first-come-first-served and as always no cuts or tyouts. There may limited openings in younger age groups as well. Baton twirling classes -- are being offered through Carole’s School of Baton in conjunction with the Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation. Classes for ages 4 and up are held at the Springbrook Recreation Center in Alcoa. National accredited instructors Carole Flynn and Connie Williams teach the basic twirls along with dance-twirl, strutting, and twirling routines. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the area Christmas parade, annual spring recital, twirling competitions and try out for award winning teams. The Joshua Resource Center -- is enrolling new participants for the Fall session New Beginnings CWJC(R) program.
