COMMUNITY
Maryville Rotary Club -- has changed the date of their second annnual chili cook-off due to weather and will now be held from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3 at the Rotary Pavillion at Pearson Springs Park. This year all proceeds are going to help fund the dictionary project for all third graders in Blount County and Maryville City schools. The cost for entering the chili contest is $35 and the cost for sampling the chili is $5. Hot dogs and drinks for will also be sold for $1 each. Dotson Memorial Baptist Church -- will hold their annual arts and crafts fall festival from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, in the CAC. Rental fees to benefit Tackett Creek Missions. There will be wreaths, florals, candles, ornaments, ceramics, dolls, fall and Christmas decor', crochet/knitted items, baby quilts, fleece blankets, bakery goods, Beauty Control, handmade jewelry, a book sale and much more. Blount Mansion Visitors Center-- will host a reception for an art exhibit by Bo Bradford. The event will take place in the Blount Mansion Visitors Center, located at 200 W. Hill Ave., in Maryvlle. Live music, wine, appetizers and tours of the Mansion will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.The art exhibit will be on display from November 1-30. The Living Nativity – will be Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Greenbelt Pavilion in Maryville. A cast of actors and live animals will portray the events of that holy time. Each performance lasts approximately 20 minutes and will begin every 30 minutes. The first performance begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by one at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and the last performance begins at 8:30 each evening. After the performance there will be time to visit with the cast and animals. Refreshments will be served throughout the evening at the pavilion and each family will receive a small gift which will serve as a remembrance of the special evening. This event is free Sponsored by 1st Baptist Church Maryville.

The Annual Veterans Day Program -- at William Blount High School, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10 in the gymnasium. Light brunch for Veterans will be served at 10 a.m. and seating will begin at 10:15 a.m. Program participants include WBHS Band, WBHS Choral Department, WBHS AFJROTC, WBHS Student Leaders. Guest speaker will be Master Seargant Chief David Brown, retired United States Air Force, Vietnam Veteran.

Maryville’s Weight Loss Surgery Support Group -- meet at 10 a.m., the second Saturday of each month, at Pellissippi State College Library in Maryville. The purpose of this group is for those people who are thinking about having gastric surgery (Bypass or Band) for weight loss. Support questions and answers from people that have gone through the procedure. Find out the good and bad news about issues involved with this major surgery.

AYSO Region 1159 -- an all-volunteer organization, has completed open registration for fall but still has openings for boys and girls in several age groups to complete teams. Players ages 10- 18 are invited for U12, U14, U16, and U19 teams first-come-first-served and as always no cuts or tyouts. There may limited openings in younger age groups as well. Baton twirling classes -- are being offered through Carole’s School of Baton in conjunction with the Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation. Classes for ages 4 and up are held at the Springbrook Recreation Center in Alcoa. National accredited instructors Carole Flynn and Connie Williams teach the basic twirls along with dance-twirl, strutting, and twirling routines. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the area Christmas parade, annual spring recital, twirling competitions and try out for award winning teams.
