At 6-foot-2, 280 pounds, Jeremiah Scott isn’t just big. The Alcoa Middle School eighth-grader is bigger than any defensive tackle at Maryville College. He’s bigger than any defensive lineman on the whole Maryville team.
“He’s a monster,” Alcoa Middle coach Mike McClurg said. “He’s a big kid.”
He’s not the only one, either.

D.B. had/has big-time college credentials we were able to learn, but it’s fair to assume fans of Maryville football have been more than satisfied in the new assistant coach they got. All the new guy did, once he became the head coach four years later, was construct a dynasty.

For five days, the 24 survivors of regional qualifiers will be tutored and evaluated by ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer and his staff for the chance to be named the nation’s top high school quarterback entering the 2011 season. The evaluation process will include SPARQ testing, 7-on-7 play, interviews and other events.

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/jul/20/how-i-spent-my-summer-vacation-area-football-teams/?partner=RSS</link><description>With the completion of the BlueCross Bowls back in December, the seemingly endless offseason officially began for Blount County’s four football programs.
Have no fear. The wait is almost over.
With the third weekend in August serving as opening week for Alcoa, Heritage, Maryville and William Blount, the offseason has been reduced to a measly four weeks. Teams from all four schools have stepped up the time, effort and intensity in conditioning. Each program has successes from last year that can be built on, so let’s take a close look at how each high school is structuring their off season provisions.

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/jul/20/passing-camp-honoring-mc-coach-major-hit/?partner=RSS</link><description>Cody Bowers would be so proud.
Three years after the former Maryville College assistant football coach died tragically in an on-campus automobile accident, the high school passing camp begun to honor his memory is enjoying unprecedented success.
The Maryville College 7-on-7 Perimeter Passing Day welcomed 30 teams to the campus last Saturday for a day-long, midsummer extravaganza. The camp had applications from 50 schools, but the college simply didn’t have the field to hold more. The passing day is staffed by several Maryville alumni, including founders Brian Gossett, Nick White and Jason, who began event and moved it to Maryville three years ago in Bowers’ honor.

It doesn’t get any bigger when it comes to the Green Bay Packers.
Huge.
Randall Cobb’s wait to the second day of April’s NFL Draft might have been a frustrating one, but the Packers made sure the former Alcoa High School star and University of Kentucky All-American knew how much they wanted him when they had Taylor announce Cobb’s selection alongside NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at Radio City Music Hall.

Games will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude by 6 p.m. The event was organized in memory of Cody Bowers, a Scots coach and alumnus who died tragically in the fall of 2007. Thirty schools have committed to this year’s event, which groups teams into pools and allows each to practice their passing game for the upcoming season.

The Tennessee Future Stars seventh-graders went to the locker room at halftime down two touchdowns last Saturday at Carson-Newman, but things were far from as bad as they seemed.
Tennessee’s middle school all-stars had gifted one score to their Kentucky counterparts on a fumble returned for a touchdown. The second score had come on a long pass play after busted coverage in the secondary. There were mistakes and broken plays all around.
