Event co-chair Lana Boyd, a teacher at Alcoa High School, said the two day event culminates with Black History Month.
“We always have it in February in conjunction with Black History Month,” said Boyd. “It is always held that last weekend of February. There are always two parts, the festival part at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and the gospel festival at Mother Love Baptist Church.”

This realization has led one woman to work as an instrument of hope for God.
The Truth Revealed Project, a community crusade to share the love of God with all teenagers, will be held at Heritage High School on Tuesday, April 19.
Kelly White said her concern for teenagers developed while taking her daughter to school last fall. Many of the teens she saw looked so sad and lost. “God began to burden my heart about it,” White said. Around the same time, she was taking a class at church called, “Experiencing God - Seven Steps of Knowing and Doing the Will of God.”

Six and a half years later, the McCarters are joined every Sunday by a congregation of almost 400. This week they take a giant step toward even more visibility as they open the doors to a new home on William Blount Drive.
Aaron McCarter, lead pastor, and his wife, Sharon, executive pastor, organized Maryville Vineyard as a church plant from the Chattanooga Vineyard Church. For the past 3 1/2 years the Maryville congregation has called a facility on Farnum Street in Friendsville home.

They served some of their signature dishes, including Sierra chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrot cake, red velvet cake and fresh fruit to more than 450 people.
At the end of the evening, the tired crew collected no tips, and the cost of the meals was totaled out to “zero.”
“This comes from the heart, not the wallet,” Best said.
