</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/oct/12/wins-losses-tears/?partner=RSS</link><description>Ryan Click hitting that shot had to be the wildest thing to happen in seven years of Blount Today sports.
We got to see Cait McMahan and Lee Humphrey cut down the nets on national television. Maryville got so good at football that the Rebels didn’t lose a game in Blount Today’s first four years. They won 74 straight to set a new state record before we saw them lose for the first time. Still can’t wrap my mind around that.
Since Blount Today opened its doors on Aug. 26, 2004, my beloved Tornadoes have crowned every season with a state championship.

O’Day visited the New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center on Wednesday as part of a top-to-bottom review of her department. Solutions to problems, she said, are found on a local level where people are closest to the problems.

A Path Home is a new campaign that will debut during the Harmony Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the former Montvale camp.
Joy Bishop of Maryville is supporting the campaign. “A Path Home is an opportunity to step up and support Harmony while remembering people we care about,” said Bishop. “So many people have been campers here at Montvale, and they came with their families over the years,” she said. “We thought, what a wonderful opportunity! People could give them as gifts in honor or in memory of others.”

“I think this year we knew tickets would go fast before we made the announcement that Reba (McEntire) was coming,” said Jane Groff, event coordinator for the City of Maryville. “We had a feeling she would be a huge kickoff for us. For us to have sold out tickets in two and half weeks was pretty impressive and solidified what folks around here want to see,” she said.
Reserved seats for McEntire sold out in minutes. The only tickets left at press time this week were a few reserved seats for Friday night. Go to www.KnoxvilleTickets.com.

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/oct/05/east-broadway-businesses-balk-festival-ordinance-p/?partner=RSS</link><description>The Foothills Fall Festival is gearing up to bring thousands of people to downtown Maryville this weekend. But even a festival, it seems, is not without controversy.
Downtown business owner Richard Clear, owner of Clear’s Silat and Street KungFu, is renewing his push to change the city ordinance that bars businesses from setting up outside their storefronts during the three-day festival.
Clear has been an outspoken critic of the city for an ordinance that prohibits businesses that fall within the Fall Festival’s layout that prohibits businesses from setting up tables in front of their stores.

But Julia Kyle, vice president of membership for the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, just has to let the numbers do the talking.
Kyle’s retirement from the Chamber was announced on Friday at the monthly Coffee Club that Kyle organizes. Not one for fanfare, Kyle wanted to combine any goodbyes with the monthly networking event, so Chamber president and CEO of Blount Partnership Bryan Daniels announced her retirement at the Coffee Club, held at Camellia Trace Apartments.

</title><link>http://www.blounttoday.com/news/2011/oct/03/young-life-presents-its-message-old-fashion-hoe-do/?partner=RSS</link><description>A good old-fashioned hoe down, complete with bluegrass music, cowboy boots and cutoff overalls, was the order of the day recently at Smithview Pavilion.
The Sept. 20 hoe down was this year’s theme for Blount County Young Life’s annual fall banquet.
Clay Bagby, area director of Young Life in Blount County, said the event, which the county chapter has hosted since the late 1980s, is a way to raise money for their next fiscal year and to share what Young Life does in local high schools.
“Tonight we’re really trying to communicate what we are about to the whole community,” Bagby said.
